To register with Monarchs for Kids, please do 5 things:
The Aldo Leopold Nature Center is also providing monarch eggs this year. You can register with ALNC or Monarchs for Kids--the programs are independent. To register with Monarchs for Kids:
1. Consult with your colleagues to see who else at your school wants monarchs. We will assume the teacher emailing or registering is the coordinator for that school.
2. Register by email. I need for each school...
- The name of each participating teacher
- Their email
- Their monarch experience (yes/no)
- Their grade
- Name of person coordinating/picking up for that school
- Coordinator's mobile phone number
- Coordinator's proposed pickup date/time at 306 Falles Ct., Madison. If you cannot give a precise pickup time now, tell me your preferred day of receiving eggs so I can plan.
- Enter the above information on this form.
3. Decide the date you ideally want to receive the monarch eggs...
4. Send me your proposed pickup date/time by text or email. Any date through Sept. 10, between 10 am and 11 pm. Davidthompson20@aol.com. Text: 608-692-5467. Pickup location is 306 Falles Ct., Madison. I'll confirm if that works.
5. Once you know the pickup time, plan with the other teachers how you will divide the eggs and transfer freshly hatched caterpillars to fresh food. You don't want to leave the pickup person alone with a load of work on a Friday afternoon. And the caterpillars may need checking over the weekend.
Find your old equipment (bin and mesh tent) and make sure any item that held adult monarchs last year is sterilized with bleach solution, if it will be used to house caterpillars this year.
It would be helpful if--when you pick up--you leave us a few glass jars with metal lids. They should be of a size that fits in an automobile's cupholders. (Not Mason or Ball jars.)
