More monarch males chasing one another

I spent another cool, sunny day watching monarch butterflies along Clair Street.  What a pleasure!

I found the same, distinctive male I saw yesterday, doing the same things and hanging out mostly in the same part of the yard.

I brought a camera with a 200 mm telephoto lens, which allowed me to get better photos to help identify individual butterflies.  I'll share a few photos...

Three butterflies tried to mate at once.  Unsurprisingly, it wasn't a successful mating. The one on the left is female.  The one on the right is male.  The one below--sex unknown.
